USING THIS WEBSITE
We offer a wide range of different staircase styles in various materials and configurations. The staircases on this website have been categorised by style ie Spiral,Floating,Cantilevered,Traditional,Modular etc etc. Within each category the ranges are further divided based on how the staircase is constructed. There are Total bespoke designs, modular Bespoke system and off the shelf Kits. Each differ in terms of the materials / finishes on offer, delivery times and price. Please use the tabs to the Left of each page to navigate through our stair styles.
GETTING A QUOTATION
Obtaining a quotation (even a basic off the shelf staircase) needs some input from our team so you will need to get in touch by phone or email. The price of each staircase is based on the shape, width / diameter, the floor to floor height, materials used and finishes. Each model has a guide price listed which is based on the standard model options, heights and finishes. For an exact price we will need to know-
- The staircase style that is of interest
- The shape of the stair (spiral, straight flight, quarter turn or half turn)
- The finished floor to floor height (even an approximate will suffice for estimating as each stair is priced per tread /riser)
- The stair width or diameter
- The location of any walls (so we can include stair balustrade in the right place)
- The material options for the treads and balustrade. (i.e. type of timber for treads , spindles / glass panels for the balustrade)
- The length of any landing balustrade required
If you have any drawings they will show many of these measurements so please forward by email / post. We accept them in CAD or PDF formats. If you don‘t have any drawings, a rough sketch would be helpful and if possible some photos of the stairwell area at each floor looking at the stair well.
To help with this we have prepared this brief terminology guide.

DELIVERY
All our modular staircases are supplied in a palletised box and are delivered by a carrier equipped with a pump truck for offloading. Generally the transport company will contact you the day before to advise on an AM or PM delivery. Modular staircases take between 4-6 weeks for delivery depending on the model and number of accessories ordered. Kit stairs take 2-3 weeks
Our custom made staircases vary in how they are delivered depending on the size and weight of the model. The timber staircases are supplied on a pallet as are the majority of the bespoke steel models, but some larger stairs have to be delivered by a truck equipped with a hoist crane. All our custom made staircases take between 6-14 weeks to manufacture.
For further help and information please have a look at our Terms and Conditions or call the office.
BUILDING REGULATIONS
If you are installing a new staircase as part of a new build installing a new stair to a loft conversion your stair will need to comply with the current building regulations. If you are involved in either of these it is likely you will have an architect involved who will design the staircase accordingly. Of course we are on hand to advise on the correct rise, going, pitch and headroom for your staircase. Please be aware that even if you are fitting a stair and the local planning office is not involved you might one day sell your house and it will probably be inspected by a surveyor.
All our custom made timber and steel staircases are manufactured to comply with most recent building regulations unless otherwise requested.
The domestic modular staircases are all manufactured abroad where regulations are less stringent and because many have adjustable components they can physically be assembled in a way that contravenes the regulations. We therefore have to deal with each project individually to ensure the right components, accessories and sizes are ordered to comply.
Stairs etc Ltd will advise as much as possible but the overall responsibility of compliance lies with our client.
The main domestic building regulations points to consider are −
- Maximum rise value − 220mm
- Minimum going value − 220mm
- Maximum pitch of stair − 42°
- Minimum headroom − 2000mm (for loft/secondary stairs a relaxant may be offered)
- Maximum gap between spindles and between treads − 100mm
- Stair Handrail height above pitchline − 900mm
- Minimum clear tread width for a secondary domestic spiral − 600mm
Minimum clear tread width for a main domestic spiral − 800mm
